...where a man named Shy (who is not really shy but that is just his name and he'll tell you that as well as what his name means in Hebrew) will suck you into his Kiosk (because he is a good sales starter) where he will hold your hand and buff out your nails into this beautiful shine. Only to tell you that you can buy two kits including the buffing tool, the cuticle oil, and the hand lotion for $49.00. And today only he will give you one kit for free when you buy one. There are a few keys to this sale that seem to be vital...
1. They talk so fast that you can't really understand them and can't ask questions
2. They have a thick accent (middle east) so you can't understand them
3. In order to demonstrate they have to hold your hand so you can run away without bolting
4. They have a seemingly good product to sell. It buffs and shines your nails to the point that it looks like you have a clear coat on when you don't.
How do you get out of a sale that means nothing to you (because you are hardly able to clip your nails let alone "buff" them)?
Tell him you are sending your husband back to buy it for you for Valentine's Day!
I hope he wasn't too disappointed when I didn't bring my husband back! ha ha ha

I went to Fashion Place in December after not being there for over a year (we always go to South Towne) and I was blown away by how pushy those sales people were at those kiosks. They are much more aggressive than at the South Towne Mall and it made for a not very pleasant experience. I've thought of sending an email to Fashion Place, but haven't.
Me? I just pretend I am in a hurry, can't talk, gotta run!
That's funny! Hey here is that recipe for the black bean soup...
1 T olive oil
1 large onion chopped
1 medium stalk celery, chopped (1/2 cup)
2 carrots, chopped (1 cup)
4 cloves garlic, chopped (1 T)
1 or 2 T chili powder (I added only 1 and it was good)
1 T ground cumin
¼ tsp pepper
3 cans (14 oz) chicken broth
4 cans (15 oz.) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (15 oz) whole kernel corn, drained
2 cups mild picante or salsa
In a 4 quart saucepan or dutch oven, heat oil over medium high heat. Cook onion, celery, carrots and garlic in oil 5 min., stirring occasionally. Add chili powder, cumin, pepper, cook 1 min. Stir in broth, 2 cans of beans and the corn. Heat to boiling stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, place remaining 2 cans of beans and the picante in a blender or food processor. Cover and blend until smooth. Stir this mixture into the boiling soup. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15 minutes. Serve with some chopped cilantro on top and chopped tomatoes. You could also add a little sour cream.
This has happened to me! Same place, same guy. He IS good, but I said I'd come back on payday...it was the only way I could get out of there.
Hey Marlies, I don't know how I stumbled onto your blog but I did. How are things going? I love the blogging world. Anyway, send me your e-mail and I would love to invite you to my blog!

ok marlies i'm just being honest here, but that lotion is the BEST! before they started selling it here my dad bought some for me during a cruise in alaska. i savored every time i used it because it smells great and is very rich and works really well. i know what you mean about the sellers, but sometime you should try it!
I am so with you. I always give them the "I don't think so" look when they try to even touch my hand. I'm not exactly friendly. They suckered my mother in law into a demo once though. I told them I didn't have any money. I gave him some excuse--don't remember if it was that my husband just lost his job, I was pregnant, I don't care for my nails, whatever. I think he got the drift. I dislike those things.
