Kindred Souls (vol.4)

This one is my last one for a while. This is for the wonderful grandmothers in my life who have become my friends. These women just happen to be the age of my parents or more, but still are just as much my friends as are the women my age. This is to the prestigious and experienced women in my life.

* Kent and I have some of the best friends in our ward and it amazes me when I realize that we are the same age and younger than their oldest children. Kristi has worked with us in Primary as well as the Enrichment committee with me and Bob has served for many years in Young Men and scouting with Kent. Kristi is also the inspired woman who asked me if I knew anyone who might be looking for a job at Eddie Bauer. If not for her I wouldn't have found the job that I wasn't looking for that I definitely needed. She is one of the classiest ladies I know. She always does things so well and so nice. She always looks put together and she also puts things together so nicely. I have also never heard an unkind word from her about anyone. She always uses such discretion when discussing others and their imperfections. She is definitely an admirable woman whose example I'd like to follow.

* Interestingly the next woman and the first woman are great friends. Jaline and Kristi have so many positive characteristics in common and yet they are so different. Jaline is also a woman who does things well and puts things together in a very classy way. She is also a woman who I have served with on the Enrichment committee as well as in the Primary and she worked hard in both organizations. Jaline is also a woman with some spunk as many women of her stature are. She is a go with the flow kind of woman when it doesn't flow how you want it to. She is very reliable. When she says she'll be there you will see her there at least five minutes early. She feels that it is very rude to make people wait and I admire that about her (since I have a hard time being on time...sorry Jaline). She is just such a pleasant person to be around and I am so thankful to have her as a friend.

* The church has blessed me with many opportunities to serve and when I was in Young Women's I was blessed to serve under Joan. Joan is so talented. She has the greatest talent and hobby of making homemade greeting cards. Every card is absolutely adorable and embellished so well. She is also a woman with a heart of gold. I remember that there were some girls who had a hard time with Joan as she first became the YW president, but because of her love for the girls it was only a matter of time before the girls absolutely loved her. She is quite a trooper. When we went to girls camp we were given the choice to have tents or stay in the lodge and our girls wanted to stay in tents. Joan could have said no way is this body sleeping on the ground and being uncomfortable we are going to the lodge. She could have said that, but she didn't! She stuck it out for the girls sake. She is also very organized. There was never a detail that slipped her mind. In fact there were quite a few that slipped my mind and she called me and reminded me of those details. Joan is a wonderful woman whose friendship is valued greatly.

* Even though these posts are about friends and not family there is one family member who needs to be spoken of because she is also my friend. My cousin Sandra is closer to my dad's age than mine so growing up I didn't really know her. At least not as a friend. I had the good fortune to live with her as Kent and I were dating and became engaged. I have so enjoyed our associations since then. Sandra is one of the Kunz' and with that came awesome genetics. (Yeah so no skinny jeans for us) Despite her genetic make-up she has decided to make some healthy changes in her life and that is inspiring to me. Especially since she did her best to get me up to exercise with her at some horribly early time in the morning and while I can't get up before 6 am now she still does wake up early religiously. She eats healthy and exercises pretty much daily. In addition to her healthy habits she is a good communicator as well as a deep spiritual person. She is definitely someone I would pick as a friend if I didn't also have her for a relative. I am so glad that I was able to live with her and get to know her so well as a friend. Thanks!

* Val is quite possibly the woman I have learned the most from outside of my family members. She is an amazing woman. I worked with her the year I was pregnant with Braxton and I learned so much. She taught me how to treat people as valuable as they are. She always made me feel like I was the best teachers assistant she had ever had. She also taught me to expect the best from the students. They would obviously disappoint you, but you still had to expect them to do their best. I also learned to empower myself. She taught me so much about overcoming my obstacles. I never knew how talented I could be in Math and Science, but she made me have such a desire to learn more in those areas where I had previously been so intimidated. She also taught me about style. For a woman a few years older than my parents I never would have guessed it. She dressed in such a way that made her look youthful while still sophisticated. She continues to inspire me today as I receive emails from her on her mission in Africa working in the temple. Her experiences inspire me and make me desire so much to serve a mission with Kent one day. I have learned more from her than can possibly be captured in a paragraph. She truly is a woman who has bettered my life and I am SO thankful to have her influence in my life.
