Follow the Flag and Pioneers in July 2021

Follow the Flag
Because of girl's camp running so close to the 4th of July, Kent forgot that it was a holiday weekend and planned a fishing trip on the 3rd of July (the 4th was on a Sunday) with our neighbor James and his boys. Kent took Cort and Marshal with him and Braxton stayed home...

...Since Braxton and I were left on our own I decided that we would volunteer for Follow the Flag. This group hangs the large flag in Grove Creek Canyon every Fourth of July. While I was very excited to participate I didn't know how much work this would really be. I got tired fast and had to step out...

...but Braxton kept on going and I was so proud of him and his strength and stamina. It was definitely an experience that I don't think either one of us will forget. We were even privileged to watch the military jets headed to Provo to do their fly over for the parade.

I didn't hurt that we got to see this beautiful canyon!
How blessed we are to live where we live!

On our way back down we enjoyed finding the flags from states of interest of our friends and family!

Sunday evening we were able to go watch part of the program where they unfurled the flag.
We stayed for a bit until we chickened out due to the rain. lol

Fouth and Fireworks
We enjoyed watching the fireworks with our kids on the Oquirrh Mountain Temple lawn.
While we waited we took selfies and Cort made friends with another boy, named Walter, who was there watching with his mom. That kid can make friends nearly everywhere we go. ha ha

Ward Campout and Donut Falls
We had a great time with the ward camping. It was so nice to be able to do an activity like this with our ward members when we missed out on so much time together the year previously due to Covid-19.

Donut falls was very beautiful! It was a lot of fun exploring!

Thanks to the help of our new ward member Brother Mellers I was able to make it up to the falls and even explore a little beyond the falls.

After I had gone off exploring I came back and heard that Kent had been encouraging Marshal to feed the wildlife.

Looks like he was able to literally hand feed this little chipmunk!

Rain, Glorious Rain!
After months of no rain and watching our lakes get very low we were so grateful for so much rain! It is such a blessing to be able to pray and watch the Lord answer those prayers.

Days of '47 Events
We had fun checking out all the floats at the Float Preview.
Marshal had fun helping this ward move the arms of the pioneers.

Our stake was in charge of a float and this was our stake float...
oh and I really liked that golden horse in the parade on TV so I took a photo.
I'm not certain why, but the parade was on Friday the 23rd instead of Saturday the 24th.

Unfortunately, the parade took a turn for the worse when a friend who was driving our
truck and trailer somehow hit the back end of the float with our truck.
It was certainly not a happy day at our house that day. 😢

Pioneer Day Fun
As we headed down to Meadow/Kanosh for the 24th of July we saw the Budweiser Clydesdale Horses and had to take some photos! Too bad they weren't headed where we were.

We loved seeing all these floats about coming together.

After the long year of Covid it was so nice to see these little communities coming together indeed!

Marshal running in the Meadow foot races.

Cort and Braxton ran the foot races as well.

Kent ran, but as usual he didn't do so well.
The Meadow champ at foot races remains!

Change in Plans
for the Kunz Family
Because of Kent's truck being in the shop we decided that camping wasn't going to be a great idea for the Kunz family. We ended up spending a day at the lake, going to dinner a couple of nights, and then going bowling the next day. It turned out to be ok.

Face Comparison
We decided to see which ancestors Cort and Marshal looked like while Braxton was gone...
Oh and turns out Syrina and I are 5th cousins twice removed!
So fun!

Life in July
Top Left: I have learned a thing or two about customer complaints while working at WiO. Make sure you take photos of your complaints. Yeah I definitely complained when the pest control oversprayed this bad. Time for some more training. Top Left Middle: Braxton showing off his "BYU" love. We love to give him a bad time about being ok with wearing BYU gear. Top Right Middle & Bottom Left : Showing off my curly hair-do for the day. Top Right & Middle Bottom Photos: I was able to attend the temple early in the morning and it was a wonderful experience. The sky was beautiful and I felt so blessed to be there! Bottom Right Photos: What a blessing to have so much rain fall. Not everyone loved it but it brought me a lot of joy! I loved seeing my neighbor Brock's post about it.

Top Left & Middle Right & Bottom Right: Marshal's messy ice cream face. Top Left Middle: Kent decided we needed an ice shaver so that we could make snow cones. Mmmmmm yummy! Top Right Middle & Bottom Right Middle & Top Right: Marshal was able to attend Paxton's Star Wars birthday party. He seemed to have a good time. Bottom Left & Bottom Left Middle: We went to see the show at Lagoon and while I enjoyed the music and magic show very much Marshal showed his feeling about it. Guess he didn't like it so much.

Top Left: What a beautiful reminder. I too can make this world beautiful! Top Left Middle: Something happened and I can't remember what exactly. We were playing Secret Hitler and It seems like I was either Hitler or a Fascist but I forgot to open my eyes when I was supposed to...so I lost. Opps! lol Top Right Middle & Top Right: This was hands down the BEST thank you card I ever received. I loved that they forget to write in it and sign it. In all truth it's kind of how I feel about thank you cards. I know they are supposed to show gratitude, but I also feel like they are somewhat formal and insincere...which is why this one just left me laughing. I loved it. Bottom Left: I'm glad that I've been able to work on a growth mindset! Bottom Left Middle & Bottom Right Middle: Two inspiring thoughts I wanted to share. Bottom Right: Turns out that I'm now a top notch clothing designer. lol

The Busy Summer Begins...June 2021

End of the School Year
Left & Bottom: We made Braxton try out outfits so he could see that the green shirt would be better for 9th grade Lagoon Day. I can't believe he's done with Middle School! Top Middle: Marshal loved having Ms. McCarty for his teacher this year and I was so grateful for a good teacher with all the craziness of Covid. Top Right: Cort really enojoyed having Mrs. Smith this year. I was a little nervous at first but she was a great teacher for him. Bottom Right: We were so happy to find Mrs. Connie at Stake Conference so we could get a picture. We were also able to find Marshal's friend Blaze at stake conference. It was so great to be able to find his friend from school at stake conference. We also were able to hear his mom speak in conference and learned what a miracle Blaze and his twin sister Breeze were to their family. I am so thankful for good friends for me and my family members!

Summer Fun
Left, Top Left & Top Middle: Spencer came to West Jordan to take us for a horse ride with this horse and buggy. The horse came from the guy who used to give rides in carriages around temple square. Right Center & Bottom Left: Someone forgot to water the horses over the weekend and those horses were mighty thirsty and very dusty. Left Middle Bottom: The new craze on Facebook is turning your photo into a cartoon. I joined in the fun and kind of liked my character face. Three Last Photos: I did a thing and had to document. I dyed my hair PURPLE. It was a red purple and it was very faint so it wasn't really noticable but I did dye my hair purple and I have the proof. lol

Top Left: I caught Marshal reading books in bed and thought it was very sweet. Top Left Middle: I'm not sure why we provide a bed to children who fall asleep on the floor. lol Top Right Middle: If you look closely you will see a tiny baby praying mantis. Top Right: Cort was so into the movie that he forgot to sit down in the dentists chair. lol Bottom Left: Becca and fam came for a visit before their big move to South Carolina. I caught Marshall dancing with a skeleton. ha ha Bottom Left Middle: After getting better from Covid I had Kent on a strict healthy eating plan. Bottom Right Middle & Bottom Right: I found out while Kent was at scout camp why our lawn was dying...we had a fountain instead of a sprinkler.

Service Scavenger Hunt
Top Left: Cute Allie put away a shopping cart and gave a stranger a rose. Top Center: Elizabeth and Sister Olsen sweeping the walk. Top Right Middle: Lexi and Diana and Becca pulling some weeds.Top Right: Lexi taking out garbages. Bottom Left: More weeding by Rebekah, Elizabeth and Lexi. Bottom Left Middle: Allie taking out garbages. Right Side: Elizabeth and Allie showing off their broom skills. Left Side & Middle Right: I took Elizabeth and Jayeden home but had to pick up my boys at Blackburns so the girl's found my phone and took some selfies. All the Rest: The girls having treats and visiting at the end of our activity.

Young Men's Camp
I didn't get too many photos since I wasn't at Young Men's Camp but the buys built boats to float around the pond and apparently Braxton and William's boat almost made it all the way around the pond.

Pineview Reservoir
with the Rojas Family
We enjoyed some summer fun and kayaking with the Rojas family.

They even shared their paddle board with us so we got to try them out.
Kent didn't do too bad.

Braxton did all right as well.

Fish Lake
Top: Travis showed Cort a magic trick and while I didn't actually love his magic trick I was proud of how Cort handled it when he realized how the trick was on him. Bottom Left: Troy was teaching Cort how to rope a cow. Bottom Left Middle: Marshal is sure going to miss Brayden when he leaves for Germany! Bottom Right Middle: It was fun to watch Bailey and Brady use the stroller to walk the water cooler down the road to dinner.

Movies from the loft and lots of fishing...this is what happens when you go to Fish Lake.

Girl's Camp
We all showed up at camp in our camo shirts on the same day. We had to take a photo of course! We also enjoyed making earrings for craft time up at girls camp! So much fun!

Confidence Courses and Fun
The girls had fun doing the confidence courses even though they decided to stop when it started raining on us.

These were the confidence courses they had for the girls. The map is where the magic stump was located. This is a magic spot that you can drive to in order to get cell phone service. I have no idea how it came up, but I somehow told the girls about how Kent sings that awful song Blood on the Saddle. When we left camp I had to look up all the words. The girls LOVED the song of course. Especially when Rebe made up her OWN version. lol

Archery
We had fun learning how to shoot a bow and arrow...
even Makinzee who ended up with an awful bruise was smiling.

Top Left: Becca Ferre Top Left Middle: Collin Simsonsen Top Right Middle: Allie Ferre Top Right: Autumn White Bottom Left: Anne Stradley Bottom Left Middle: Alexis Loveridge Bottom Right Middle: Alicia Simonsen Center Right: Anne Stradley's serious face Bottom Right: Arabella Bellows

Bullseye!
These girls were pretty excited about their shots with the bow and arrows!

I didn't do too bad myself!

A Little Water Fun
We enjoyed some time canoeing and kayaking on the lake.
My favorite part was watching Sage's face as she
got a ride back to camp with the missionaries!

More lake fun! The girls also enjoyed catching salamanders!

Camp Hike
We had the most beautiful hike with the girls and I took
some time to share some of the thoughts about life
thinking skills which I am also sharing below!

Camp Scenery
So many beautiful wild flowers!

Amazing skies and even a bat staying with us in the cabin...
...not all the leaders were excited about that one. lol

More photos of the hike

We had a few days of rain which brought beautiful clouds!

I can't help but love this beautiful world!
